Hotels often lose direct bookings to OTAs due to price undercutting. Guests visiting hotel websites or booking engines are not always aware that the hotel's direct price matches or is better than OTA prices. Reassuring customers that the hotel’s price is the best and highlighting any direct booking benefits can help win back bookings from OTAs and increase revenue for the hotel.
Price Check won’t appear if the hotel does not have the best rate online. It should be used in conjunction close monitoring of the hotels rate parity to ensure that Price Check appears as frequently as possible.

What is a Price Check message?

What is an In Page Price Check message?
This version of a Price Check message can be embedded seamlessly into your booking engine so that it looks like native content rather than a pop-up message.
How Price Check works
- A guest searches for a specific itinerary
- Triptease picks up the search information to identify similar searches on various OTAs
- Triptease first checks their cache to identify any identical itineraries across various OTAs for faster rate returns.
- If no match is found, Triptease then performs a real-time search across multiple OTAs
- Triptease compares the results and:
- If the hotel price is in parity or cheaper direct with selected OTAs, Triptease will fire the Price Check Message
- If the hotel price is undercut by selected OTAs, one of the following scenarious will occur, depending on the hotelier’s product selection:
- Scenario 1: Triptease does nothing, price Match does not appear
- Scenario 2: Triptease fires an Undercut Message (if it’s been set up by the hotelier) letting guests know the additional benefits of booking direct, and inviting them to get in contact with the hotel
- Scenario 3: If On-Site Price Match is set up and Triptease has all the required parameters to price match, then we’ll use the On-Site Price Match functionality to auto-match the OTA price
